Fire
Yesterday, the Lionshead fire grew approximately 3600 acres,
while the White River grew 11 acres and Beachie Creek
reported 69 acres of fire growth. The Lionshead fire remained
active overnight. A cold front is currently traveling south and
coming into the area later this afternoon. This front will bring
strong winds – Northeast gusts up to 30 mph on Lionshead and
East gusts up to 40 to 50 mph on Beachie Creek. Although
temperatures will be lower today, the cold front is bringing dry
air and low humidities. The windy conditions will result in very
active fire behavior today.
Smoke
Current northwest and west winds this morning will bring
smoke from the Lionshead wildfire into Sisters, Bend and
Prineville. Strong easterly winds today will move smoke from
Lionshead fire west over the Cascade Crest today. Smoke from
both fires will move into the Detroit Lake area with periods of
“Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups” and “Unhealthy” air quality
possible.
