Smoke forecast, September 6

Fire
Yesterday, the Lionshead fire grew 5,575 acres, while the
White River and Beachie Creek fires reported minimal fire
growth. Hot temperatures and dry conditions will continue
today. Overnight, humidities will remain low and support fire
activity. Winds will be light and variable in direction this
morning, breezy west winds are expected this afternoon and
evening. The continued combination of dry fuels and hot and
windy conditions will result in another day of problematic fire
behavior and large acre growth on the Lionshead Fire.
Smoke
Smoke from California wildfires entered the forecast area
yesterday, resulting in generally hazy conditions throughout
Saturday and should be clearing today. A strong inversion this
morning will weaken and lift smoke throughout the late
morning and early afternoon. West winds this afternoon will
bring smoke from the Lionshead wildfire into Sisters,
Redmond, Prineville, and Bend, with periods of “Unhealthy for
Sensitive Groups” air quality possible. Smoke from the Beachie
Creek fire will settle into the Detroit Lake area overnight.
