Smoke forecast, September 3

Fire
Smoke from three wildfires are impacting the forecast area:
White River fire, Mt Hood NF – 16,356 acres Lionshead Fire,
Warm Springs Agency – 8,618 acres Beachie Creek Fire,
Willamette NF – to be mapped, over 50 acres. Hot
temperatures and dry weather will continue through the
weekend. Dry fuels combine with hot temperatures and low
humidity will lead to very active fire behavior today. Winds will
be light and variable today and driven by terrain. Interior
unburned islands should continue to clean up and another day
of perimeter growth is expected.
Smoke
Northwest winds moved smoke from Beachie creek and the
Lionshead fires into Sisters, Bend, and La Pine late yesterday
afternoon and overnight. Air quality values reached “USG” at
Sisters and Bend. This morning air quality has improved to
“moderate” in those three communities with “good” air quality
elsewhere. Today, light winds should result in few impacts on
communities south of the wildfires. Smoke modeling confirms
that impacts will be primarily local to the fire perimeters.
