TEXT “COFIRE” TO 888-777 TO RECEIVE WILDFIRE & PRESCRIBED FIRE TEXT ALERTS

Wickiup Fire Update, July 25, 9pm

Central Oregon –Firefighters responded to a new incident today, the Wickiup Road Fire burning 5 miles west of Post, Oregon. It is estimated at 100 acres burning in grass, brush and timber.

The Wickiup Road Fire was reported around 3:00 p.m. and firefighters from multiple organizations including US Forest Service and Bureau of Land Management, Oregon Department of Forestry, Crook County Fire and the Post-Paulina Rural Fire Protection Association (RFPA) responded quickly to the blaze that began on private land and spread to Prineville BLM managed land. Two Single Engine Air Tankers (SEATs) and heavy air tankers as well as helicopters cooling hot spots assisted firefighters on the ground in constructing fire line.

Tonight, firefighters are making good progress on stopping forward progress of the blaze and will continue constructing fire line around the entire perimeter. Tomorrow morning at 6:00 a.m., a Central Oregon Type 3 Incident Management Team will take command of the Wickiup Road Fire. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
