[Condon, Oregon] Monday afternoon, the Gilliam County Sheriff’s Office issued a Level 3 Go Now! evacuation notice for areas 2 miles west of the Airbase on Richmond Road, all of Richmond Road and all of Pattee Road. This does not include the Airbase houses and residences east of the Airbase at this time. Also issued this evening was a Level 2 Be Set! evacuation notice for Buckhorn Lane, Armstrong Road and Butte Creek Road. Please avoid these roads for everyone’s safety as fire traffic will be heavy. The Red Cross has set up an evacuation information center at the Condon High School and it will be open from 10:00AM until 6:00PM tomorrow.
NW Team 7 has been integrating with OSFM Blue Team since 4:00PM today. Oregon Department of Forestry and Bureau of Land Management have delegated authority for the management of the Stubblefield, Seale, Buckhorn, Jennie’s Peak and Lone Rock Fires on the Prineville District, Bureau of Land Management in conjunction with Oregon Department of Forestry Lands associated with Jennie’s Peak and Lonerock Fires.
Starting at 6:00AM tomorrow, the teams will be in Unified Command, together managing all of the fires around Condon. The Type 2 team brings welcomed additional resources to support the ongoing efforts of Oregon State Fire Marshal’s office, the local land owners and agencies who have been engaged and stretched thin since the lightening storm last week. NW Team 7 will be ordering hand crews, heavy equipment and air resources. Oregon State Fire Marshal’s Blue Team Incident Commander, Ian Yocum stated in the in-briefing meeting, “We are stronger together. Together we will get good work done.”
The Red Flag warning for critical winds and low humidity ended at 9:00PM. The critical winds did not occur as predicted and fire growth was not substantial. The firefighters were able to make headway on all of the fires. The forecast is for lighter winds tonight and tomorrow with temperatures holding in the high 80s. The fire officials are hopeful that the reprieve in the weather will allow fire crews to make good progress towards containment.
