Sherman County Sheriff puts Segments 3,4 of Lower Deschutes River under Evacuation Notice

Last night the Substation Fire moved southeast away from The Dalles and jumped the Lower Deschutes River north of Macks Canyon. Due to predicted fire behavior and weather conditions today, the Sherman County Sheriff has decided to issue a Level 3 evacuation notice (Go now) for the area from Macks Canyon north to Sherars Falls. This will include the Buckhollow and Macks Canyon launches and will mean that there will be no access to launch in Segments 3 & 4 until this notice is lifted. Boaters already on the river can float through to Heritage Landing to take-out. The Sheriff is working to evacuate campgrounds at this time.

Boaters with permits for the affected areas can use their permit to launch in either Segment 1 or 2 or wait to launch after the evacuation order is lifted. The Sheriff will lift the evacuation as soon as conditions allow.

For more information about this evacuation notice, please contact the Prineville BLM at (541) 416-6700, and follow the Sherman County Sheriff on Facebook for more updates.
